Frequently Asked Questions

Is Luena Foundation a registered charity? Where is it registered?

On October 28, 2019, we received our federal designation letter and were granted 501(c)(3) status by the United States Internal Revenue Service (IRS). We are a fully registered non-profit charity organization in the United States of America and our EIN (Federal Employer ID No) is 83-3302256.

Luena Foundation is committed to helping kids in need all over the world. Our bylaws state that our purpose is to raise funds for charitable and educational projects in developing countries and distribute funds, materials and supplies to institutions in such countries in an effort to provide education, health services and charitable assistance to impoverished children. Candidates for grants must undergo an evaluation by members of the Foundation, after which our Board of Directors will hold a vote.

If your organization would like to apply for funding please direct you self to our Becoming a New Partner section of our website, where you can learn about what who and what we are looking for.  You will find a link to our new partner application. Once you submit it,  a representative from Luena Foundation will get in touch with you.

Since our inception, Luena Foundation has paid ZERO administrative costs out of public donations. That said, all charities incur reasonable expenses to raise donations and provide proper oversight of their activities. In our case, Luena Foundation DOES NOT pay any salaries whatsoever, is entirely powered by volunteers, and works on a very lean, cost-sensitive infrastructure. Private donations made by our Board of Directors and Founders cover our accounting services, banking fees, and government filing fees, all of which are transparent in our annual filings.

No. All directors and staff members are volunteers. Despite the commitment that is required, we donate our time and energy because we are committed to our mission, steered by our core values, and inspired by Luena’s legacy of love.

Our main sources of income are from: A) yearly endowments from our founders and Board of Directors; B) gifts and donations from our associates and the public, and C) third-party solidarity fundraisers.

Luena Foundation does not currently receive any government funding.

Absolutely not! Luena Foundation respects the rights and privacy of its donors. Any personal information that you provide is used exclusively to process your donation, maintain records of all contributions and to keep you informed of the latest news and fundraising initiatives. Luena Foundation is a 501(c)3 tax-exempt organization (EIN 83-3302256) and your donation is tax-deductible within the guidelines of U.S. law. To claim a donation as a deduction on your U.S. taxes, please keep your email donation receipt as your official record. We’ll send it to you upon successful completion of your donation.

Unless you specify which project(s) you wish the money to go to, Luena Foundation will allocate your donation in our general fund.  We do not use any portion of your donation to cover our operational expenses.
