Luena Scholars
Because kids have the right to a quality, inclusive education
We believe that quality, inclusive education should be a basic human right. Despite this, millions of children all over the world do not have the opportunity to learn, particularly if they live in poverty or are girls. In August 2022, Luena Foundation launched the Luena Scholars Fund to help the most vulnerable children access their right to a quality, inclusive education by earmarking funds for schools and community-based organizations that are working to keep kids in the classroom and learning, no matter their circumstances or backgrounds. Sometimes it’s as simple as providing textbooks, shoes, or school supplies. Other times we help to offset the cost of school fees, which could be the difference between keeping a young child in school as opposed to toiling in a field or mine. Our beneficiaries include:
- Refugee or internally displaced (IDP) children
- Victims of child abuse or neglect
- Street children and victims of child trafficking
- Children with a chronic illness or disability
- Orphans
- Children living in extreme poverty
- Children of disabled, sick or elderly parent(s) / guardian(s)
- Children of single mothers/widows
- Children of subsistence farmers
