Lack of Clean Water Access Increases Diseases
Children at Chisawani and Chadzunda primary schools were using unprotected water sources due to the fact that the boreholes at these two schools were damaged and needed rehabilitation. Without water access at the schools, the nearest borehole was over 5 kilometers away. This meant that school students resorted to using unprotected water from rivers and wells, which resulted in high incidences of waterborne diseases.
Repaired Boreholes Improve Community Health
The donation from Luena Foundation was used to repair two water boreholes at Chadzunda Primary School and Chisawani Primary School. This project has provided clean water to students, teachers, and the surrounding communities. Access to clean water via these rehabilitated boreholes is expected to reduce exposure to waterborne diseases by 98%.
