Preschool Lacks Effective Classroom Environment
The socio-political crisis in the Northwest and Southwest regions of Cameroon has continued to displace families and disrupt access to basic services, including education. In the Ntambang community, where many internally displaced persons (IDPs) have settled, preschool children have been attending classes in poorly equipped environments, often lacking basic furniture like tables and chairs, leaving them no option but to sit on the floor while they complete school activities. This has hindered their ability to engage fully in learning activities and has placed additional strain on teachers working with limited resources. Care-Hope Education identified the need to support early childhood education as a foundation for long-term academic success.
Classroom Tables Improve Learning Environment
The donation from Luena Foundation was used to purchase and deliver 25 study tables for the preschool children, ensuring that they have a proper surface for writing, drawing, and other classroom activities. Additionally, three tables and three chairs were provided for the teachers to enhance their ability to manage the classroom effectively. The donation directly benefited 55 preschool children, providing them with a more comfortable and functional learning space. The community contributed by offering volunteers to assist with transportation and installation, ensuring the furniture was set up efficiently.
The head teacher noted that the new furniture has already increased the children’s enthusiasm for learning, as they now have a dedicated space to work. Community leaders highlighted the significance of this support, emphasizing that it has addressed a critical gap in early education infrastructure amidst the ongoing crisis. The furniture is expected to remain in good condition for years to come, supporting multiple cohorts of preschool learners and laying a stronger foundation for their educational journey.
