Internally Displaced Children Need Social and Educational Support
The Southwest Region of Cameroon has been severely affected by ongoing civil unrest for over seven years, leading to the displacement of thousands of families. In Bova Village, the Government Primary School has become a safe haven for many internally displaced children who face extreme hardship, trauma, and instability. These children often lack access to basic educational resources like safe recreational spaces, which are essential for their development and well-being. The disruption of normal life has left communities struggling to rebuild, with children bearing the brunt of the crisis.
Playground Supports Child Wellbeing and Community Health
The donation from Luena Foundation was used to construct constructing a safe playground within the school grounds. The playground provides children with a much-needed space to play, socialize, and heal from the emotional toll of displacement, and it introduces practical lessons in socialization. Achievements of the project include enhanced child development, improved school meal quality, and empowerment of their teachers through skills training. The initiative has fostered community collaboration and resilience, creating a healthier, more supportive environment for displaced families. It represents a step toward restoring normalcy and hopes for children in one of Cameroon’s most vulnerable regions.
