Hunger Presents Barrer to Education in Remote Areas

Education is one of the Sustainable Development Goals. Whereas it is a government mandate to provide education infrastructure and better learning environments, many mountainous areas have been usually at a disadvantage in this aspect. Education centers are located at a distance from hill villages, and the young learners always take time to reach the learning centers, often without having eaten before their arrival. These conditions make it difficult for children to concentrate on learning.

The meals project will help young students be motivated to be in school, and the school will have reduced cases of absenteeism, school dropout, and high levels of coverage of the teaching syllabus. The community members – children’s caregivers – will be able to carry out their work without any fear of hunger for their children and will enroll more learners in the school.

School Breakfast Supports Effective Learning

The donation from Luena Foundation was used to procure food supplies for two academic terms (maize flour, millet flour, milk powder, sugar, cups, spoons, and wages for the cook) to support breakfast for the children in the Kindergarten/Nursery section of El –Salvador Kasokero Nursery and Primary School. Providing this school meal daily enhances their learning and ensures that they love school and are attentive in class.

Meet our Partner Community-Based Organization

Hope for Future Community Development Initiatives (HOFUCODI) was founded in 2019 as an indigenous organization to look at alternative methods of supporting vulnerable persons or groups of persons in our community. Looking at the welfare of the peoples of Kasese community, especially the rural areas of Kyondo Sub County, we saw a strong need to combine efforts with the existing development partners – local and international – to work with the community to initiate development strategies and achievable initiatives to revive the hope of the community members.
