Vulnerable Students Struggle to Attend School
Nancholi is a small rural district nestled in the hills surrounding the city of Blantyre, the second largest city in Malawi. Health care, education, and gender equality are huge issues throughout Malawi, particularly in rural areas such as Nancholi. Many children face barriers to attending school consistently. Some are orphans or come from families that can not afford school fees. Young girls often drop out of school if they are pressured into early marriage.
Access to Education Empowers Students
The donation from Luena Foundation was used to pay the school fees for 25 students for one year. It also provided essential educational resources, including textbooks, pens, and other necessary writing materials. Through this support, the students successfully completed their Form 1 studies and were prepared to advance to Form 2 in the upcoming term.
Importantly, this initiative played a crucial role in empowering girls; by remaining in school, these girls were given the chance to build a better future for themselves. Additionally, the initiative promoted their participation in school clubs that focused on life skills and sexual reproductive health, providing them with essential knowledge and support to make informed decisions about their lives.
