Conflict and Displacement Leaves Families Vulnerable
The crisis in South Sudan has created significant challenges for normal living conditions and the delivery of humanitarian aid. Access to essential services (e.g. healthcare, food, and sanitation) is severely limited, particularly in high-conflict/high-displacement areas. Many vulnerable families, including widows with children, live in the IDP camps. Although they are the primary caregivers and breadwinners for their families, these widows rarely have a reliable income or source of livelihood.
Skills Training Supports Financial Independence and Socio-Emotional Wellbeing
The donation from Luena Foundation was used to provide raw materials for vocational training and skill development in soap processing to widows in the IDP camps, enhancing their capacity to earn an income and regain financial independence. 38 widows participated in a three-month training program. As a result, these women are now either publicly employed or producing soap independently, with technical support from Dit-Ni-Tek, to provide for their families.
