Multiple Threats to Child Safety and Wellbeing
A significant portion of Maua residents live below the poverty line, with many earning just $1 or $2 a day and struggling to make ends meet. It is also a region where a major cash crop stimulus drug called Mirra is grown, as well as an area burdened by underaged marriage and pregnancies. Locals are faced with scarce employment opportunities, and many turn to criminal activities, including prostitution, drug use, theft, and illegal alcohol production as means of survival. This has led to widespread insecurity in the Maua slums and an increasing number of abandoned and neglected street children. The Christ Victory Rescue Centre (CVRC), established in November 2023, has since opened its doors to these street children, providing them with nourishment, care, and education. The children have ambitious dreams for their futures, and we are aiming to foster each and every one of those through attentive care, essential resources, and life skills.
CVRC Gains a Permanent, Sustainable Home Through Land Purchase
The donation from Luena Foundation was used to pay installments on a five-acre plot of land that eventually will be fully developed with a school and dormitories to house students and carry out CVRC programs. On this land, CVRC has already planted food crops that will sustain the children year-round and provide essential farming skills. Additionally, a chicken coop project has been initiated to supply the children with eggs and generate income through egg sales. This project also imparts valuable skills for future financial independence. Until the new dormitories are constructed, CVRC rents another shelter facility to provide housing for the children. The donation was also used to pay rent on that housing facility.

Meet our Partner Community-Based Organization

Christ Victory Rescue Centre (CVRC) was established in November 2023 in response to a severe crisis involving countless children who were starving, using drugs, and dying on the streets. CVRC aims to foster each and every rescued child through attentive care, essential resources, and life skills. Recognizing the importance of holistic care, we have implemented various initiatives to address their physical, emotional, and educational needs.
