Need for Cholera Prevention Measures

A cholera outbreak affected several communities in Blantyre District. Clean water scarcity has intensified the spread of this life-threatening disease. Community members can treat their household water supply with chlorine, significantly reducing the risk of cholera transmission and improving community health and resilience.

Chlorine Supply and Awareness Campaigns Support Public Health

The donation from Luena Foundation was used to purchase and distribute chlorine to villages impacted by the cholera outbreak, which has empowered households to treat their water. Health workers from Zingwangwa Health Centre have been instrumental in not only distributing chlorine but also leading cholera awareness campaigns. They have organized health talks for community members, educating them on safe water practices, hygiene, and preventive measures to protect against cholera and other waterborne diseases. Our joint approach has amplified the impact of the intervention, ensuring that individuals receive both the practical means to safeguard their water and the knowledge needed to maintain long-term health and safety.
