Pregnant Teens Need Multiple Supports
Nicaragua has the highest rate of teenage pregnancy in Latin America. This is a barrier that prevents girls from accessing education and threatens their socioeconomic futures. Pregnant girls and adolescents in the area of Camoapa often live in extreme poverty and at high risk. Fundación Luceros Del Amanecer runs the ‘One Life at a Time’ program (Una Vida a la Vez) to provide comprehensive care, including medical care, nutrition, job training workshops, psychological care, and public health education campaigns. The program was in great need of new facilities in order to expand services and reach the community better.
New Center Provides Thorough Care for Pregnant Teens
The donation from Luena Foundation was used to build a new prenatal center. The space has a medical office with a stretcher, medical equipment, and primary medications, where pregnant women are provided with care, assessments, and individual follow-up. Additionally, it has a room for group activities, where weekly meetings and a monthly club with mothers and pregnant women take place, as well as presentations, workshops, and prenatal exercises that can be carried out with the required privacy. It also has an administrative office for the nurse who coordinates the program.
