Barriers to Affordable Healthcare in a Rural Community
The accumulation of poor health issues, even minor ones, can become a barrier for students and their families during the course of a school year, impacting a student’s ability to complete school.
Healthcare Available to the Community
The donation from Luena Foundation was used for purchasing drugs, equipment, reagents, and supplies to start and operate Ryan Lam Clinic. The clinic will provide healthcare to Shine Preparatory School scholars, their parents, school staff, and the wider community.
Ryan Lam Clinic: Important Stats
- How many people get treated at the Ryan Lam Medical Center each year?
Ryan Lam Clinic (medical center) started in October, 2023 so it has not yet finished a year in operation, and will be completing its year in October 2024.
However, since it started, it has treated a total of 727 people of which 457 were treated for free and 270 have been paying for the service.
- How many pay and how many are free?
From October – December 2023, a total of 270 people accessed the healthcare services of which 170 were treated for free and 100 have been paying for the service.
From January – July 2024, a total of 457 people accessed the clinic services of which 287 received free and 170 paid for the services.
