Lack of Desk Space Undermines Education and Inclusion
Bughayo Light Moon Nursery and Primary School is located in a remote area, with the nearest additional school located 7 km away. Due to the high educational need for this rural community, the school enrolls 350 pupils and faces a significant challenge due to inadequate seating facilities. The lack of desks resulted in many pupils being forced to sit on the floor or to share desks. This not only affected their comfort but also their ability to focus and learn effectively. The situation exacerbated inequality within the classrooms as those who secured the desks enjoyed a better learning experience while others were at a disadvantage. Overcrowding and unfairness among pupils compounded the issue.
Provision of Desks Promotes Effective Teaching and Learning
The donation from Luena Foundation was used to procure 66 desks to help provide seating and work space for students in the classrooms at Bughayo School. Students can now sit comfortably and focus on their studies, leading to improved academic performance. It has also promoted equity in the class room, ensuring that all students have equal access to educational resources. The reduced overcrowding in classrooms has helped students be more engaged and confident in their learning, which will lead to better academic outcomes in the long run.
