Lack of Educational Resources and Facilities

In Githurai 45, a densely populated informal settlement in Kenya, children face significant barriers to quality education due to overcrowded classrooms, where a single teacher may be responsible for over 80 students. This overwhelming student-teacher ratio severely limits personalized attention, leading to gaps in learning and understanding. Additionally, many children return home to cramped and unsuitable living conditions, lacking the necessary resources such as textbooks and quiet spaces for study. These challenges hinder their ability to reinforce classroom learning and progress academically. Our proposed library and digital learning center aims to address these critical issues by providing a resource-rich environment where children can access educational materials, receive tutoring, and study in a conducive setting, ultimately improving their educational outcomes and future prospects.

Library Facilitates Educational Support and Literacy Growth

The donation from Luena Foundation was used to purchase the necessary materials to build the library’s structure, including walls, floors, windows, doors, and a spiral staircase. The donation also furnished the library with tables, chairs, bookshelves, and essential fixtures. This new space now offers children a safe and supportive environment to study, access educational resources, and receive tutoring, helping to improve their education and future prospects.
