Lack of Classroom Space Presents Barriers to Education
Mile 14-Dibanda operates a lone secondary school that was created 13 years ago to enable poor and needy village children and others to continue school after their primary education. The school is managed by the resident community through the Parents Teacher Association (P.T.O.), who are struggling to provide more infrastructure and pay some of their teachers. The school presently has five classroom blocks with four of the classrooms being partially completed. One of the classrooms is incomplete and has been abandoned since two years ago due to lack of funds to complete construction. The rising school enrollment has left the school with no choice but to use the uncompleted classroom block. Students study in an open air classroom with no shelter during high sunshine. Worst of all, during rainy weather lessons are cancelled or students are forced to merge with another class which often disrupts the teaching and learning process.
Enclosed and Refurbished Classrooms Improve Learning Opportunities
The donation from Luena Foundation was used to complete and renovate a dilapidated classroom block at Dibanda Secondary school, including roofing, flooring, plastering and painting. Our efforts benefit the 364 children attending Dibanda Secondary School and their eight teachers. The project was deemed of high importance by the community and beneficiaries because it has greatly improved the learning process and educational experience.
