Rural Community Lacks Educational Infrastructure
Akobo County has a total population of 250,000. Akobo Primary School is the oldest school, established in 1929, with over 1,500 students from primary to secondary. Because of civil war, the school is in deplorable condition after 95 years of its existence. Akobo Primary School is overwhelmed by large numbers of student who are returning from neighboring areas after having been displaced by the war. Akobo County is located on the border between Ethiopia and South Sudan, and children from villages on both sides of the border are attending Akobo Primary School. Due to the increasing numbers of students, Akobo Primary School lacks chairs to accommodate students.
School Benches Make Space More Conducive for Learning
The donation from Luena Foundation was used to purchase 60 benches, which can accommodate 180 students for Akobo Primary School. This funding has greatly improved the learning environment for Akobo Primary School students, allowing them to have a comfortable place to sit during lessons. The new chairs have not only enhanced student focus and participation but also uplifted the overall atmosphere of the classroom. By providing these essential learning tools, the Luena Foundation has shown its commitment to education and the wellbeing of Akobo community, making a lasting impact on the lives of our children.
