Economic Impact of Cyclone Threatens Access to Education
In 2023, cyclone Freddy severely affected the lives of many families in our communities, leaving them without basic necessities. As a result, many students at Nansomba Day Secondary School, Namulenga Girls Primary School, and Nsanjama Primary School were at risk of dropping out due to unpaid school fees and lack of school uniforms. The support from Luena foundation brought confidence to students and learners and it has also helped to alleviate some of the trauma and stress caused by cyclone Freddy.
Support Keeps Children in School
The donation from Luena Foundation was used to pay school fees for six students at Nansomba Community Day Secondary School, thereby ensuring their continued education. It was also used to buy four rolls of fabric and to hire tailors to make school uniforms. These uniforms were donated to 150 primary school learners, promoting dignity, attendance in class lessons, and allowing them to stay in school.
