Food Insecurity Places Young People at Risk

The Creative Thespians Afrikanas has been a home away from home for many kids and a safe place for the less fortunate. Many of the young people who participate in Creative Thespians come from a humble family background, possibly being raised by a single mother or living in cramped conditions with as many as eight family members living in a single room. The Githurai community is the second largest slum in Kenya, and lack of food has been the main reason for the increase of social issues, including drug abuse, prostitution, crime, etc.

Nutrition Program Improves Youth Health and Safety

The donation from Luena Foundation was used to purchase sacks of maize flour, wheat flour, sugar, and rice and to hire cooking staff to enable the smooth running of the meal project for youth performers. Offering a reliable food program helps to keep young people safe at the center when they attend regularly after school.
