Flooding Heightens Malaria Risks for Vulnerable Children
The June floods created a heightened risk of malaria transmission within the community, posing a significant threat to the vulnerable children under our care. Flooding often leads to an increase in mosquito breeding sites, thus increasing the likelihood of malaria outbreaks. Children, particularly those already facing vulnerabilities, are especially susceptible to this disease. This project directly addressed this urgent health concern by providing a free medical camp focused on malaria treatment and diagnosis. By offering these crucial services, the project aimed to promptly identify and treat malaria cases among the children, preventing further spread of the disease and safeguarding their health during this vulnerable period following the floods.
Diagnosis and Treatment Protects Vulnerable Children
The donation from Luena Foundation was used to organize and facilitate a temporary medical clinic that provided free malaria treatment and diagnostic services to 130 vulnerable children impacted by the recent floods. The donation covered the costs of essential medical supplies, including rapid diagnostic tests for malaria, as well as the necessary medications for treatment. Thanks to the Luena Foundation’s support, these children received timely and critical care, protecting their health and well-being during a particularly vulnerable period.
