Multiple Threats to Child Safety and Wellbeing
A significant portion of Meru county residents live below the poverty line, with many earning just $1 or $2 a day and struggling to make ends meet. It is also a region where a major cash crop stimulus drug called Mirra is grown as well as an area burdened by underaged marriage and pregnancies. Residents are faced with scarce employment opportunities, and many turn to criminal activities, including prostitution, drug use, theft, and illegal alcohol production as means of survival. This has led to widespread insecurity in the slums and an increasing number of abandoned and neglected street children. Christ Victory Rescue Centre works to provide shelter, nourishment, care, and education to these children. Many of our beneficiaries arrive malnourished and traumatized, having experienced hardships that no child should endure.
Securing Dedicated Staff Ensures Thorough and Consistent Care for Children
CVRC rescues children from the streets with extreme cases of starvation, malnutrition, and illness. The donation from Luena Foundation was used to provide a 6 month budget for staff who ensure smooth operations and undivided care and support for the children at the centre. There are 2 matrons and 2 patrons who live there full time and handle everything from feeding, washing, school follow-ups, medical issues, farming, mentoring, and much more. There is a watch guard as well who is on half stipend and the Nairobi manager who is on half stipend for their involvement.
Meet our Partner Community-Based Organization
Christ Victory Rescue Centre (CVRC) was established in November 2023 in response to a severe crisis involving countless children who were starving, using drugs, and dying on the streets. CVRC aims to foster each and every rescued child through attentive care, essential resources, and life skills. Recognizing the importance of holistic care, we have implemented various initiatives to address their physical, emotional, and educational needs.
