School Needs to Grow to Continue Serving At-Risk Children Effectively

Kwezi Child Foundation provides education, scholastic materials, and meals to over 200 children. The organization also supports children living with albinism, an inherited condition that leads to someone having very light skin, hair, and eyes, due to low levels of melanin in their bodies. This condition usually causes a lot of discomfort, especially for people living in poverty who are unable to access essential things to help minimize the effect of the sun on their skins. A special report by the Monitor (read here) reported that girls living with albinism in Kayunga District were easily lured into early marriages and later deserted by their husbands. Given this background, Kwezi Child Foundation is supporting 48 children (32 girls, 16 boys) with scholastic materials, sunscreen, hats, and clothes that protect them from the sun.

To serve children effectively and continue developing programs, the school facilities needed to be expanded. Local materials can be used to make bricks, rather than purchasing all construction materials, but in order to produce a large quantity of bricks, Kwezi Child Foundation needed assistance from community volunteers.

Brickmaking Project Facilitates Expansion of School Facilities

The brickmaking project is being run by the community members as their contribution to the school. As of June 2024, the volunteer team produced 20,000 bricks that were used to build additional school facilities. The donation from Luena Foundation provided meals and washing soap for volunteers during the brickmaking project.
