Socio-Political Crisis Leaves Children Without Access to Education

Cameroon has been facing an under-reported socio-political crisis in the two English speaking regions of the country for the past 7 years. The crisis led to a deadly confrontation between separatist fighters and the state armed forces, which has claimed the lives of more than 7000 persons, destroyed more than 200 villages, and displaced more than 2 million persons into the forests or neighboring French speaking communities for safety. Dschang, a French speaking neighboring city in the west region of Cameroon, received more than 15,000 internally displaced persons, including many children. Some of the children who relocated to Dschang for safety had no access to education for over five years due to lack of sponsorship and educational materials.

New Supplies Help Children Continue Their Education

The donation from Luena Foundation was used to buy pens, pencils, rollers, pencil sharpeners, and exercise books of various sizes for different grades of primary school children. These school supplies give crisis-affected internally displaced primary school children in Dschang access to quality education, targeting group one and two government primary. The Project was highly appreciated by teachers, guardians, and pupils of the target primary school, and it has helped CENCORDEC Cameroon connect with head teachers of other government primary school in Dschang who badly need the same project to be implemented in their various schools.

Meet our Partner Community-Based Organization

The Centre for Community Reformation and Development in Cameroon (CENCORDEC Cameroon) is a nonprofit and nonpolitical organization that began as an informal voluntary group in 2016 and was registered with the ministry of territorial administration in 2019. Since its inception, CENCORDEC Cameroon has been working actively and devotedly to empower vulnerable children, women, youths, and resource-limited, hard to reach communities living in extreme poverty. CENCORDEC Cameroon envisages a world where all sentient beings and the planet are cared for and protected and all persons are given the required opportunity to obtain their full potential and live a dignified life.
