Rural Families Left Vulnerable
Since the civil unrest in SW Cameroon began, it has brought to the forefront the lack of social protection measures for poor, rural residents who are at the mercy of the economy’s downturn. Demand for food, education, and financial support has increased so much in the past few months, and many are using any opportunities to make ends meet.
Improved Food Security and Education Access
Luena Foundation’s donation was used at PEACE CROPs, to empower and work alongside internally displaced youth and women, by giving 20 women the training / skills / tools to create organic food gardens on their land. The grant enabled us to buy items that will be used in their gardens (shovels, boots, hoes, seeds, and much more).
We were also able to provide opportunities for about 200 children to have education by giving them items to be used in school, such as exercise books, pens and pencils, etc.
In the long run, our project is providing means for some of the women to sell their crops and pay their children’s school fees going forward. We did ensure that a majority of our beneficiaries are continuing to apply what they had learned even after the project’s completion.
