Lack of Access to Clean and Safe Water
Wabinyira has a population of over 3000 inhabitants, 99% of whom survive on subsistence agriculture. Most families earn less than $1 a day and live below the poverty line as defined by the UN. The lack of clean and safe water for human consumption in Wabinyira causes residents to travel long distances in search of water. People sometimes fetch water from the swamp where they also have to take their cattle for drinking water. Outbreak of diseases is common in the village, especially amongst children, due to the lack of clean and safe water in the community.
Clean Water Supports Health and Livelihoods
The donation from Luena Foundation was used to drill and construct a standard borehole that provides clean and safe water. This borehole helps both Harmony Children’s Foundation and the community at large. We get water for home consumption and support farming through irrigation. This has improved the farming since it enables production throughout the seasons.
