Lack of Access to Clean and Safe Water
Wabinyira Village is a rural community in Uganda, home to approximately 1,200 residents. The village is primarily dependent on subsistence farming, with families working the land to meet their daily needs. One of the significant challenges facing Wabinyira is access to clean water. Historically, residents have relied on open water sources, which are susceptible to contamination, posing health risks to the community. Culturally, Wabinyira is rich in traditions, with community events that reflect the values and heritage of its people. However, educational access remains a challenge, as children often have to balance school with household responsibilities, including water collection.
Clean Water Supports Health and Livelihoods
The donation from Luena Foundation, together with $3,000 from Hydromissions International, was used to drill a borehole water well and install a manual hand pump. This new well will significantly enhance the quality of life for the community, providing a reliable source of water for drinking, cooking, cleaning, and bathing. It is anticipated that access to clean water will reduce the prevalence of illness, as residents will be better hydrated and able to prepare and consume food and water safely.
