Unprecedented Rainfall Causes Devastating Floods

In late October 2024, the Valencia region in eastern Spain faced the most catastrophic weather event ever recorded in recent Spanish history. An isolated high-altitude low-pressure weather system, known as a DANA, brought extraordinary rainfall, with parts of Valencia experiencing more rain in two hours than they had all year. The mountainous terrain near cities like Chiva worsened the situation, causing flash floods as water surged through river valleys and into urban areas. Highways were inundated, cars were swept away, and numerous people were trapped, with reports of at least 200 fatalities across the affected regions.

Cleaning Supplies Aid Disaster Recovery

Luena Foundation purchased cleaning supplies and disaster recovery materials to help clear mud from streets and homes in the affected areas, including 10 pairs of rubber boots, 216 L of bleach, 15 heavy-duty metal shovels, 30 meters of absorbent reusable cloths, and 420m of paper towels.
