Limited Access to Services in a Rural Community Puts Children at Risk
Chifundo’s rural community in Malawi struggles to access education and health services. The village is located 18 kilometers away from the hospitals and secondary schools, so vulnerable patients were walking great distances to access free medication from the hospitals. The distance to secondary schools was a contributing factor to children dropping out of school.
New Secondary School Allows Students to Learn in a Safe Space
The donation from Luena Foundation helped Chifundo Epilepsy Foundation build an inclusive secondary school to accommodate learners with and without disabilities, making a new chapter in the history of their community. Currently, Chifundo has registered 60 children, both with and without disabilities, who are expected to start their first school term on 16 September 2024.
